My Article on 'Managing Interview Phobia'

Quite often aspiring candidates having the best of the knowledge and personality traits falters in an interview to secure that dream job, not because they lack in few aspects so as to impress those panel of experts, but its because they have developed a fear/phobia towards interview either because of repeated failures or grapevine doing the rounds.

Simplifying Management Training-A challenge?

Simplifying management training in a way so as to reach an audience who aren't aware about the basics of the subject, apart from not knowing good english is indeed a very difficult proposition. That too the challenge increases manifold, once you get to know that you cant even reach out to the target audience via vernacular medium as you aren't familiar with the vernacular the audience knows and vice-versa.The best way out in such a case is to substitute jargons and complicated words with simple easy to understand phrases, illustrations and examples.Techniques like role play, simulation also proves to be effective in such a scenario. The other tools which really helps are substituting difficult words with synonyms, exaplaining concepts by relating with day to day examples and the like.
However, I should admit the fact that this exposure is making me understand the essence of simplicity. Moreover to scale down to a level, which one may not have imagined earlier, especially while training students and executives, makes the process fun filled!

Read my article on KYP

http://www.iupindia.org/309/HRM_Review.asp?mag=http://www.iupindia.org/309/HRM_Review_sub.asp

The source given above talks about an article published in the HRM Review, March 2009, which talks about KYP. Know Your Peers, like that of KYC-Know Your Customers in the Indian banking sector is very important for all the employees working in an organization. People management being the key in a knowledge driven economy, it is imperative on the part of all concerned, irrespective of the level and domain one is working on, to know the nuances of KYP.

Read and comment, for symbiotic learning!

My Article on 'Boss is always right'

Boss is always right! It may be a common adage in the corporate circle, however, one thing is for sure, thorough understanding of the moves of the boss provides one with lot of learnings. And how about making a information database about different moves he/she made and how you would have reacted in a similar situation can provide you pointers to realize what is right, what is wrong, where you are in the organizational hierarchy and stuff like that.Real life case analysis helps isnt it?

Meanwhile read the article pasted from The Hitavada, 14th April 09, leading English Daily of Central India and comment

Fanatical moves in the business world….Be cautious before your business reacts-proactively or reactively!

Fanatical moves are being made by global corporations. The rumour mongering that the present slowdown would be second in the list after the great depression if not more penetrative gas started to send most of the corporate executives, entrepreneurs, small and medium businesses react abnormally. School of thoughts emanating cites instances of Tech Mahindra over quoting Satyam, Japan and France along with Germany protecting the automobile sector by doling out car-substitution plans, G-20 showing a united developed and emerging nations fighting tooth and nail against the meltdown, Nano creating a flutter in the otherwise depressed global automotive markets, albeit with a concern in the mind of the Kyoto protocol supporters, innovation in ideating fiscal stimulus, precision of identifying toxic assets and gunning them down and so forth.

It’s often seen that a chunk of the people reacts simply to the rumour and initiates steps which are uncalled for. The moment may be alarming; however it also provides opportunity to look for a new segment, to reorganize the business model, to recheck the product portfolio and so on. It calls for thorough introspection as the dynamics in the environment should be treated differently by different business houses and individuals. One size fits all even during a slowdown would tantamount to following a bandwagon blindly.

Different Training Inputs and techniques during meltdown?

Contingencies calls for out of the box thinking commensurate with the happenings. While the panic of recession is catching up with the global audience, the aftereffects being felt,it is time for the trainers, notably the ones representing my tribe (read-management and soft skills trainers)to do some changes in their training content, delivery, tools and techniques used. A thorough soul searching so as to know the roots of the current slowdown the global economy is witnessing, would pinpoint towards the aspect of unethical business practices, greed, temptation to achieve astronomical sales and revenue figures so as to create the much needed difference in the market place, have instead gone awary! The bubble ultimately gave in!Behemoths like Lehman brothers, Freddie Mac, Frannie Mae, American International Group to name a few have experienced instances which neither their founding fathers, nor the honest stakeholders would have ever imagined.

In such situations it is imperative to touch upon these aspects while training the audiences, be it the management scholar, MBA student or the corporate executive so that they understand their domain perspectives from the cause and effect point of view. The ideal blend is necessary so the trainers need to intertwin their contents with the cause and fallout of the event, cited to be the biggest since the depression the world witnessed in the thirties.

Know more from me about such training techniques and tools.

Different environment, different techniques-Whats new?However,..........

Different surrounding calls for different techniques. What is new in that? That is what I have realized while mentoring students in trainees in India, Sultanate of Oman and Australia. One sizie fits all like in any other service industry is a strict no-no even in the training and consultancy domain. In India, trainees/students were more interested in knowing about developments from a national perspective, where a chunk would prefer jargons. In UAE, however, jargons had to be mixed with synonyms, often by quoting local examples of corporations like Nakeel, Dubai World, Mall of Emirates, Burj Dubai to name a few. Australia called for localization from the perspective of the Australasia, which needed adequate understanding of the organizational cultures of companies like Rio Tinto, Qantas, brands like XXXX Beer to name a few. Oman called for empathy and simplicity, where jargon would be the last thing and if used, has to be complimented with meanings. Here also the emphasis of explaining through local corporations like Bank Muscat, Bank Dhofar, Bank Sohar, Oman Air, Gulfar, Renaissance,Oman UAE Xchange to name a few goes a long way in reinforcing the knowledge to the masses.

A blend of localization and GLOCALIZATION holds the key to the success of a management and soft skills trainer
